**Travel Diary – David’s Journey to Edinburgh, Scotland**

**Date: April 5, 2025**
**Location: Edinburgh, Scotland**

Today marks the first full day of my trip to Edinburgh, and I can already tell this city is unlike any other I’ve visited. From the moment I arrived at Waverley Station, I was struck by the blend of old and new that defines this Scottish capital.

The weather was crisp but not unkind—just enough to remind me that spring in the UK is still a bit unpredictable. As I walked towards my hotel in the Old Town, I couldn’t help but admire the architecture. The narrow streets, cobbled paths, and historic buildings gave me a sense of stepping back in time. It felt like I was walking through the pages of a storybook.

I started my day with a visit to Edinburgh Castle, which sits proudly atop Castle Rock. The view from the top is breathtaking—especially when you look down at the Royal Mile winding its way through the heart of the city. I learned a bit about the history of the castle, including its role in Scottish history and the Crown Jewels of Scotland. Even though I’m not a huge history buff, I found myself fascinated by the stories behind each stone.

After the castle, I wandered through the Royal Mile, where I passed by St Giles’ Cathedral, the Scottish Parliament, and various shops and cafes. I stopped for a traditional Scottish lunch at a cozy pub called The Witchery. Their haggis was surprisingly good, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I even tried a dram of whisky, which I wasn’t sure I’d like, but it turned out to be quite smooth.

In the afternoon, I took a walk through the Grassmarket, a historic area now filled with independent shops and restaurants. I picked up a few souvenirs and had a lovely cup of tea at a little café that looked like it had been there for decades.

As the sun began to set, I made my way to Arthur’s Seat, a hill just outside the city. The walk was a bit challenging, but the panoramic views of Edinburgh at sunset were absolutely worth it. I sat on a bench for a while, watching the city lights come on, and I felt a deep sense of peace and gratitude for being here.

Tonight, I’ll be staying in a boutique hotel in the New Town, which has a more modern feel. I’m looking forward to exploring more tomorrow—maybe a visit to the National Museum of Scotland or a stroll through Princes Street Gardens.

Edinburgh has already exceeded my expectations. It’s a city that manages to be both ancient and vibrant, and I can’t wait to discover more of its secrets.
