Auschwitz visit - how to approach it respectfully

That hasn't been my experience at all. Maybe depends on where you are?

Visited Auschwitz-Birkenau last weekend and I am still processing it. I had read about it, seen documentaries, but nothing prepares you for the physical reality of the place. The scale of Birkenau especially - standing at the entrance and seeing the tracks disappear into the distance. The guide was exceptional, giving historical context without sensationalizing anything. I think everyone should go, but go with a guide, go quietly, and give yourself time afterward. It changes something in you.
