**Travel Diary – David’s Journey to Edinburgh, Scotland**

Today marks the first full day of my trip to Edinburgh, and I can already tell this city is unlike any other I’ve visited in the UK. The moment I stepped off the train at Waverley Station, I was greeted by the sight of the iconic Edinburgh Castle perched high on Castle Rock, overlooking the city like a guardian from centuries past.
The weather was crisp but not too cold, with a gentle breeze that carried the scent of fresh air and the faint sound of bagpipes in the distance. I decided to start my day by walking through the Old Town, where narrow cobbled streets, historic buildings, and hidden alleys seem to whisper stories of the past. I passed by the Royal Mile, a long street that connects the castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and it was bustling with tourists, street performers, and local vendors selling everything from tartan scarves to handmade crafts.
I stopped for lunch at a cozy pub called The Witchery, located beneath the castle. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with dim lighting and a fireplace that added to the charm. I had a traditional Scottish dish—haggis, neeps, and tatties—which was surprisingly delicious. The staff were friendly and gave me some great tips on where to go next.
In the afternoon, I explored the National Museum of Scotland, which is housed in a beautiful building right next to the Royal Botanic Garden. The museum has an impressive collection of artifacts, from ancient Egyptian relics to Scottish history and natural history exhibits. I spent hours there, fascinated by the stories and objects on display.
As the sun began to set, I made my way to Calton Hill, where I was rewarded with a breathtaking view of the city. The skyline, with its mix of old and new architecture, looked stunning against the golden hues of the evening sky. I sat on a bench for a while, just taking it all in, feeling a deep sense of peace and connection to this beautiful city.
Tonight, I plan to explore the Grassmarket area, known for its vibrant nightlife and eclectic bars. I’m looking forward to trying a local whisky and maybe catching a live music performance. Edinburgh has already exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to see more of what it has to offer.
